AI Reputation Defense — When an AI Engine Is Actively Lying About You
ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Claude don’t rank links — they generate confident answers. When those answers are false, defamatory, or fabricated, they repeat with the authority of a machine. This is the reactive, adversarial discipline of correcting, removing, and legally defending against harmful AI-generated claims — distinct from an ongoing AI reputation management program.
We pursue correction at the source layer, file formal correction demands to AI providers, remove the defamatory inputs models retrieve and cite, and defend against AI-generated synthetic media. Lawful, evidence-based, and built for when an answer engine is actively damaging you right now.
Defense is not management
AI reputation management is an ongoing program that builds accurate visibility. AI reputation defense is what you need when an answer engine is actively generating a false, defamatory, or fabricated claim about you and it is harming you now. The methods, urgency, and legal posture are different.
| Aspect | AI Reputation Defense | AI Reputation Management |
|---|---|---|
| Posture | Reactive & adversarial — neutralizing an active, harmful claim an engine is generating right now. | Proactive & ongoing — building and maintaining accurate AI visibility over time. |
| Trigger | A defamatory, false, or hallucinated answer has already appeared and is causing damage. | You want to shape and monitor how AI describes you before problems surface. |
| Primary lever | Formal correction demands, source takedown, evidentiary packages, and legal defense against synthetic media. | Authoritative content seeding, schema structure, and continuous prompt testing. |
| Timeline | Days to weeks for retrieval-augmented engines; cycles for training-grounded models. | Sustained 3–6 month compounding program. |
| Scope | The specific false claim, the sources feeding it, and any AI-generated synthetic media. | Your entire AI visibility across all major engines and platforms. |
Many clients use both: defense to neutralize an active falsehood, then an ongoing management program to keep corrected information stable as models retrain.
The four classes of AI reputation threats we defend against
Each harms you differently and demands a different defense. We classify the attack first, then apply the correct lever — you cannot correct a hallucination the same way you remove a poisoned source.
Model Hallucination
The engine fabricates a fact that exists in no source — conflating two people, inventing a conviction, or attributing a quote you never said.
We document the hallucination across prompts, then file a formal correction request to the provider with an evidentiary package proving the claim is unsupported, while seeding authoritative corrected sources the model prefers to cite.
Poisoned Source Retrieval
The engine retrieves and summarizes a defamatory, outdated, or false page as if it were established fact.
We identify the cited URL(s), pursue lawful takedown, correction, or deindexing of those sources, and confirm the engine stops surfacing them as the index refreshes.
Synthetic & Deepfake Media
AI-generated images, voice clones, or video depict you doing or saying something you never did, then spread across platforms and are summarized by AI.
We coordinate platform takedowns under impersonation and synthetic-media policies, pursue right-of-publicity and defamation claims, and request deindexing of the synthetic content and any AI summaries referencing it.
Stale / Superseded Data
The engine repeats a resolved, expunged, or long-corrected matter as if it is current — an acquittal reported as a conviction, a settled dispute reported as ongoing.
We supply the engine with the superseding record (dismissal, expungement, settlement, correction) and correct or remove the stale source pages so regenerated answers reflect current reality.
The AI correction request process
Vague complaints to AI companies are ignored. We build an evidence-backed correction package, file it through the correct provider channel, remove the sources the model relies on, and verify the result.
- 1
Evidence Capture & Affidavit Package
We log every harmful answer across models and prompts with dated screenshots, exact prompts, model versions, and timestamps. We assemble an evidentiary package: proof the claim is false (records, court documents, original sources), proof of harm, and a sworn statement where appropriate.
- 2
Formal Correction Demand to the AI Provider
We file the provider's own feedback / correction channel (OpenAI feedback, Google AI issue reports, Perplexity source-flag, Anthropic contact) with a concise, evidence-backed correction request citing defamation, false light, and factual error — not vague complaints.
- 3
Source-Level Takedown & Correction
Because engines retrieve and cite live pages, we pursue lawful takedown, correction, or deindexing of the specific URLs feeding the false answer. Removing the input removes the output as the index refreshes.
- 4
Verification & Re-Test
We re-run the original prompts across engines on a set cadence, document whether the corrected or removed claim has stopped surfacing, and escalate to legal channels where the provider or source refuses to correct a defamatory fabrication.
What we will not do
We do not use prompt injection, jailbreaks, fake reviews, fabricated sources, or any attempt to “hack” a model into saying something. Those are ineffective, often illegal, and self-defeating — they can permanently embed the very falsehood you want removed. We correct the inputs, lawfully and on the record.
Defense against AI-generated synthetic media
A new class of attack uses generative AI to create the defamatory material itself — then AI answer engines summarize it as if it were real. This is uniquely damaging because the “evidence” looks photographic and spreads fast. Defense here is a specialist workflow.
AI-generated images
Fabricated photos depicting you in compromising or criminal contexts.
Voice clones
Synthetic audio of you making statements you never made, used to manufacture quotes.
Deepfake video
Face-swapped or fully synthetic video, often distributed to look like leaked footage.
Synthetic narratives
AI-written articles or posts fabricated from a fabricated premise, then indexed by answer engines.
